Your Board of Directors
March 20 2019

NEWSLETTER from BOARD - MARCH 11, 2019

Welcome to the first Newsletter from the newly elected directors. We hope you enjoy the read and please feel free to reach out to us on any questions.

First 30 Days
We are now at the 30 day mark for this new board. Time to share what we have been up to and what we are contemplating for the near future.

Financial Update
The Chamber’s financial situation is good. We have had expenses from 2018 and early 2019 of over $6,000.00 that were due and paid. Revenue is primarily from memberships. We are looking at other avenues of revenue in addition to trimming expenses. Financial reports will accompany the approved minutes from the monthly meetings

Targeted Survey
The Chamber will shortly be sending out a survey to members (present and past) regarding a number of specific items as to their effectiveness of past advertising efforts. We would like to get your opinion prior to moving forward. We plan on doing occasional targeted brief surveys to get your views on specific areas, all part of our emphasis on two way communications between members and the board. We ask that surveys be returned to us.

Social Media
We have started a different approach to the Chamber social media campaign. Our focus is to promote Merrickville-Wolford as a destination to experience. Basically, “Come for the history, the heritage, the stores, the locks, the farms…” Already, the metrics have shown a substantial increase in awareness which should translate into more traffic at your doors.

Tulip Festival
The previous board passed a motion which saw the Chamber take on the role as a corporate sponsor for the Tulip festival in the amount of $2600. One of our first actions was to confirm the previously approved $2600 sponsorship funding, removing any uncertainties and allowing the organizers to move ahead with their plans. This event is not a Chamber event, but is supported by the Chamber members.

Networking Events
This executive recognizes the importance of working alongside the other stakeholders in the Municipality. We are very pleased to introduce our first Networking event on Tuesday March 18th in partnership with the Mayor and Municipality. Official details of Mayor Doug Struthers Breakfast are available on both the website and Facebook page. We look forward to seeing many members at what should be a very enlightening event. Work has already started on the next event due for mid-April.

Membership Update
We would like to have our membership drive finished within the next 15 days so that we have a better idea of the monies that we have available to create our budget. We have sent out membership invoices and encourage you to respond as soon as possible. To facilitate your payment, the Chamber will be keeping the Stripe process, currently on our website, for credit cards. As well, we are accepting electronic payments as a Vendor through on-line banking (we use RBC) with your Financial Institution . If you wish to use online banking please contact Mark Scullino at treasurer@merrickvillechamber.ca

Director Nominations
As many of you know, we have two seats still left to be filled on the board. These do not have specific responsibilities, however, they play an important role in supporting or taking on tasks for the Chamber. Please consider putting your name forward to become a director on the board or, if you wish to volunteer for any project, let us know. The nomination period ends March 20th.

Thank you for taking the time to read the Newsletter. If you have specific topics you would like to see mentioned in future editions, please do not hesitate to let us know.
